TWST Volunteer Opportunities:

Program Advertisements: Send letters out to local businesses and families to see if they are interested in buying advertisements in our TWST Swim Meet program that is sold at our hosted meets (Turkey Splash & Snowball). Follow up with phone calls, collect electronic or hard copy of the advertisements, work on layout of the advertisements and arrange for printing of the program.

Hospitality Chair: solicits any food and drink donations from businesses, and within the club for the hosted meets. The Hospitality Room is for officials, referees and swim coaches who support TWST with the meet. The room should be stocked with breakfast items in the AM, lunch spread between sessions, and healthy snacks and beverages for them to grab and go throughout the meet. Coordinates set up, and works with volunteers for the hospitality room.

Parent Liaison: an experienced swim parent available as a parent liaison (By Swim Level) to answer questions that parents may have at that level including upcoming meets, changes, etc. Meet and know the parents and swimmers at the level. Work on contacting volunteers, call, email, collect or distribute various things for that are associated with that particular swim level. Your name and contact information may be posted on our web site.

Officiating Coordinator: Work with TWST club in getting officials within the organization. Share with interested families upcoming clinics, and set up in-house clinics. Follows up with members on completion of requirements. Attends NSLI events when appropriate.

Volunteer Coordinator: Works with families and Parent Level Contacts to fill volunteer positions for upcoming events. Contacts families as a reminder. Keeps a list of parents who are available to help for future events as necessary.

TURKEY SPLASH and SNOWBALL Volunteer Positions:
Work a full morning or afternoon session (4 hrs) of either hosted swim meet will complete your volunteer hours. (You can split your session with your spouse or another family member)
Set Up: Lay out the rugs down the hallway and around the pool. Take Chairs from the commons. Set up chairs in the pool area and in the stage in the cafeteria for ‘Clerk of Course Area’. Remove all miscellaneous equipment from around the pool deck, store in hallway exit. Hang up meet appropriate signage. (Counts as ˝ work session per meet.)
Clean Up Starts immediately following the meet. Rugs are rolled up and put on a cart. Chairs are returned to the commons. Phys Ed equipment is put back on deck. The timing system is put away. Bleachers are closed up and picked up in the pool area and cafeteria. Take down meet signage. (Counts as ˝ work session per meet.)
Timing System: This person works with the team that is recording all swimmer times into computer system.
Merchandise Sales: Everything from T shirts, sweatshirts, caps, goggles to suits is sold during the meet. All merchandise is pre-priced. This Job starts at 7:30am.
Program Sales: Sell the Swim Meet Programs. Starts selling at 7:30 am. Busiest time is before the meet starts.
Marshals: Safety patrol that wears orange vests and patrol the pool area, hallway and cafeteria. Make sure the meet is running smoothly, spectators are in their seats and not on deck, and that there is clearance to and from the doors.
Clerk of Course: (Various positions) Runs the staging of events in the cafeteria. Chairs are set up by lane and the Clerk of Course announces upcoming event, gets the swimmers in the right seats and walks the swimmers in single file to the pool in swim order. Two people stay in the cafeteria and one takes the swimmers on deck making sure swimmers are lined up against the wall properly and moving to the starting blocks, then goes back to the cafeteria area to bring in the next group of swimmers.
Timers: In charge of a stop watch at designated lane. Turn the stop watch on when the starting strobe goes off, and stops the watch when the swimmer touches the wall at the end of their race.
Head Timer: This person has two stop watches and starts them for each race. If one of the lane timers raises their hand because their watch didn't go off on time or they stopped too soon, the head timer comes over and gets the time.
Awards Room: Labels are printed and dropped off for this group to put on appropriate medals and ribbons.
Results /Posting/Runner: Gets the results and post in hallway, drop off results and awards labels in awards room, periodically distributes drinks during the meet from the hospitality room to coaches, referees, timers.
Hospitality: Have the hospitality room stocked with food for breakfast, lunch, desserts, and fruit for the coaches and referees. Drinks to be in coolers, replenish food when items get low or are gone.
ADDITIONALLY
If your child qualifies to swim in a specific meet, you may be assigned hours to work during this event that should line up to the session your child is swimming.
Assorted Meets: Some meets have requirements that need other teams to help out with timing. You will be one of a few parents allowed on the pool deck at the starting blocks to help out with the meet. Most parents enjoy the opportunity to time at a larger invite meet. TWST should be informed prior to the meet if any TWST parents are needed to support the event with timing.
Championship Meet: The 2010 Niagara Swim League Championship meet will be held at Fredonia State College Pool on March 13, 14 2010. This event is run by the Swim League and all participating swim teams are assigned to volunteer for this meet in order for it to run successfully. TWST is assigned the awards room each day of event. The other positions may include: timing, marshal, and runner. If your child qualifies to swim in this meet, you will be assigned hours to work during this event that should line up to the session your child is swimming.
